There are times we don’t make wise decisions. Sometimes it’s because we get the better of ourselves. Other times, it’s because we have a desire for something.
I’ve been struggling running and finding a cadence of training since my kickball injury sidelined me in late June. Getting up at 6am just doesn’t sound fun. Instead I have tried my hand at running after work.
In order to run once I get home but before dinner, I’m usually out running by 5 or 5:30pm. Yes, the heat of a Texas afternoon.
The past couple times it has been in the low 90s and at least a spattering of clouds here and there. Not today!
I knew if I was going to get 3 runs in this week, I was going to have to run. After a quick change from work clothes to running clothes and setting out the chicken for dinner I was off.
Man, it seemed hotter than usual. I thought I just needed to get moving and the breeze of me running at 11:30/mile would cool me off. Ha! I was just a bit wrong today.
I put in a slow 2 miles. I was remembering my one afternoon July run in Phoenix. It was 3 miles and did me in for 5 days. Hopefully, I recover quicker from this one.
There comes a point in runs like this you begin bargaining with yourself. “If you don’t want to run another 1/4 mile you need to finish this stretch.” Or “an extra quarter mile isn’t bad. I’ll just walk.”
But after it’s all said and done, I’m glad I set out for a quick (relative) jaunt this after noon to keep my cadence.
