One Percent

What if you could change something by just one percent? One percent doesn’t seem like a lot. And it doesn’t seem like it would take a lot of effort to change. I’ve been thinking a lot lately about one percent. What would it look like if I increased my family time by one percent? What would my half marathon time be if I decreased it by one percent?

When considering different areas of you life and company, one percent can be a lot. Even just a mere half percent can be a lot. I once had a conversation with someone about reducing churn numbers by a half percent. It might look like a small amount of revenue the first month, but extrapolating it out over the average life of a customer, it adds up quickly.

In 2014, I had the opportunity to be a part of helping the homeless in our community. We created care packages for approximately 250 people. The estimated homeless population of Austin at the time was 2,300. When we thought of the idea of care packages, we knew we would have an impact. We even thought it might impact the one percent. In reality, we helped 10%. With a little effort to get the ball rolling, we were amazed at what was accomplished.

But what if you contributed one percent of your work hours this year to a new project? Could you contribute 21 hours to a project?

Maybe you want to invest one percent into something personal. If I were able to decrease my half marathon time by one percent, I would shave almost two minutes off. But if I were to invest one percent more time each day to decreasing my time, it would most likely drop even more.

Here is the challenge.

Find one thing to impact by one percent, personal or professional.

What you find yourself accomplishing will be amazing!
